This Caramel Oolong (previously called Red Buffalo but renamed to indicate flavor profile) is a sweet and buttery oolong. It’s a beautiful example of how good Vietnamese oolongs can be.
Though Taiwan is thought of as the go-to oolong grower, specialty tea producers in Vietnam are making big strides to close the quality gap. This tea has the smooth mouth feel of an oolong with the brisk and malty qualities of a black tea. It’s pretty special.
Grown: Moc Chau, Son La, Vietnam
Organic: No – Conventional Estate
Dry Aroma: Light Fruit and Sweet Caramel Notes
Tasting Notes: Sweet Maltiness and Citrus and Berry Fruit with Brisk and Woodsy Notes
Brewing Suggestion: We like this tea best in a teapot when we used 1 teaspoons (3-5 grams) of tea first brewed for 3-5 minutes with boiling water. For gaiwan brewing, use about 5 grams for around 30-45 seconds for the first steep.
