This GABA oolong is instantly recognizable by its caramel, cereal, and mildly fruity aroma. Malty flavors dominate the tasting notes with honey and plum notes. Good for quite a few re-steeps. High oxidization and no roasting.
GABA Oolong is a relatively new style of oolong that was developed in Japan in 1987. Researchers discovered that by oxidizing tea in a Nitrogen-rich environment instead of an Oxygen-rich one, the tea would develop higher than usual concentrations of GABA (Gamma-aminobutryic acid) which is an inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain. Basically, GABA is supposed to help you relax. There’s been a lot of research done on the topic but there are still some tests to be done to see what real effects consuming GABA orally, like with tea, can do since the GABA molecule can’t pass through the blood-brain barrier and make it to the central nervous system. For your purposes though, the alternate processing method is unique and definitely changes the flavor of the leaf.

Brewing Suggestion: We like this tea best in a teapot when we used 1-2 tablespoon (5-7 grams) of tea first brewed for 2-3 minutes at boiling (or just below) temperature. For gaiwan brewing, we recommend no more than 60*90 seconds for your first brew.
